00873 Spessartine, Garnet Hill, White Pine County, Nevada. Well formed dark red spessartine tucked back into a shallow cavity in the rhyolite matrix. The garnet is just under 1cm across, no damage. Like most garnets, the pieces from Garnet Hill are of mixed composition. Available published analysis indicates that the Garnet Hill pieces are Spessartine dominate. 01694 Sphalerite with marcasite on galena, Treece, Tri-State District, Cherokee County, Kansas. This piece is from the Kansas portion of the famous Tri-State district and is dominated by a vivid red sphalerite. Resting around the large sphalerite crystal are numerous "cockscomb" marcasite crystals. As an added bonus, there are a couple of smaller sphalerite crystals sitting on the galena as well. The galena shows nice form as well and is a perfect host for the other species. Slight damage to a few of the marcasite crystals and the galena shows some natural contacts. WA20 Stilpnomelane, Blanchard Mountain, Skagit County, Washington. A massive, rich specimen of the relatively uncommon mineral stilpnomelane with quartz from this classic Washington locality. At most localities, stilpnomelane occurs as relatively small crystals, at the Blanchard Mountain locality, the mineral is abundant and specimens such as this can be obtained.
