Missouri Mines State Historic Site, St. Francois County, Missouri
In Missouri's old lead belt, mining began in the 1700's.  The complex of the St. Joseph Lead Co. Federal Mill #3 was donated to the state in 1975 and has since become the Missouri Mines State Historic Site.  The site houses a museum with displays of mineral specimens and mining related items.  It is well worth a visit.
