Hidden Treasure Mine, Castle
Mountains District, Meagher County, Montana
Not much is known about the Hidden Treasure.
The mine reportedly produced oxidized ores in the 1890's. Development
consists of a few shallow shafts and pits. The main workings are driven
along the contact between limestone and an intrusive. The limestone has
largely been altered to the normal Ca-silicates. Some decent grossular and
rare epidote have been recovered from the mine. Interestingly, the epidote
is always found with Japan law twins.

Looking towards the south across the Hidden Treasure mine
site. The main shaft and its overgrown dump are in the center of the
picture. The remains of wooden horse whim lie to the right of the shaft.
