Blackhawk-Alice Mine,
Castle Mountains District, Meagher County, Montana
The workings of the larger Blackhawk mine consumed the workings of the Alice.
Underground development at both mines consisted largely of shafts and
silver/lead ores were produced. In later years open pit operations largely
destroyed the historic workings. Much manganese ore was produced during
the more recent operations. Currently several car loads of Pb/Ag/Mn ore
sits in one of the pits; the ore contains a fair amount of wulfenite, complete
crystals are very rare.

Looking across one of the pits at the mine. The
dumps extend to the tree line in the distance.

One of the pits of the Blackhawk-Alice, note the manganese
rich boulders.
