The Green Monster Mine, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska

The Green Monster mine, or Green Monster Mountain if you prefer, on Prince of Wales Island, Alaska ranks among the worlds top epidote localities. While I frequently collect at remote localities in harsh conditions, I continue to be amazed by the lengths that some will go through to obtain mineral specimens, the Green Monster is one of those localities. Consider that each of these pieces was collected by hand with little to no mechanical equipment and was then packed down the mountain side and flown out of the Alaska wilderness on a helicopter.
