02004 Barite, Near Greybull, Bighorn County, Wyoming. Thin crystals of barite rise from a smallish plate of matrix. The barite crystals have bases colored orangish-brown while the upper portions are white. The main crystals are perfect while a few of the accessory crystals are damaged. This is the largest piece I have from the locality and it is host to the largest barite crystals that I have from the locality. Minor pink quartz and grey calcite crystals are present as well. 01992 Barite with quartz and calcite, Copperopolis Mine, Tooele County, Utah. This piece is host to several tabular crystals of white barite which are coated by quartz. The quartz is covered with various oxides. Small snow white calcite crystals have grown on top of the grungy looking quartz coated barites. No damage. 01954 Barite on calcite, Near Myers, Treasure County, Montana. Small curved plate of calcite which has a sugary texture and is host to a group of barite crystals. The main barite crystal has excellent color and luster, and is flanked by later growths of colorless barite. The colorless barite crystals have complex terminations instead of the usual chisel shape and add to the appeal of the piece. Minor etching to the colorless barite crystals is present and keeps this piece from the realm of the outstanding and keeps an extra zero off the price. No damage. 01955 Barite on calcite, Near Myers, Treasure County, Montana. Several barite crystals with that wonderful color sit protected in a natural cavity. The barite crystals have the sharp chisel-like terminations. The crystals are unusual in that the deeper colored areas are concentrated near the terminations. A few of the barite crystals are doubly terminated. The barite crystals rest on naturally etched calcite. No damage to the main crystals. 01436 Barite with calcite, Near Myers, Treasure County, Montana. Squat prismatic crystals of barite sandwiched between to thin layers of rich yellow-orange calcite. The barite crystals have lustrous glass-like prism faces while the pyramid faces are duller. The short prism gives the appearance of pseudo octahedral barite crystals. No damage. Barite is not a common mineral in the Marie, a locality that is better known for tyuyamunite. A few crystals show some minor damage. 00775 Barite on calcite, Near Myers, Treasure County, Montana. Golden brown barite on a thin plate of calcite, much like the Elk Creek, South Dakota material. The largest barite is just over 4cm but has a slight nick to the termination. Several of the other barites have a later growth of colorless barite on the termination. 00690 Barite, Pack Rat Mine, Carbon County, Montana. This piece is one of my favorites from the mine, and has more or less been in my personal collection. I have offered for sale a few times, but never put much effort into it. If it sells fine, if not I am happy to keep it. This is one of the largest pieces ever produced from the mine, I should know, I collected just about all of them. Unlike many of the pieces from the mine, this piece has more depth. The barite rosettes lie scattered about in a pleasing arrangement with two of the main barite groups in the upper center. They are composed of crystals in the 6cm range with numerous smaller groups flanking them. This piece displays well and has more luster than most pieces from the mine. No noticeable damage.
