Still have questions?  Send me an email and I'll try to answer it.

How do I know if a specimen is still available?

Generally, if a specimen is marked Available, it has not been sold.  Occasionally, there will be pieces marked "Reserved".  When a customer tells me that they want to order a particular piece, it is marked "Reserved" and will remained marked that way until the customer has told me they are happy with it or until the two week return period is over.  Just because a specimen is marked "Reserved" doesn't mean it has been sold.

Do you give discounts?

Sometimes!  On orders of  two or more specimens totaling $500.00 I will extend a discount of 10% (yes, you can order a $500.00 piece and a $5.00 piece and get 10% off).  Museums always get 10% off their order, museum orders must be submitted on their institutions letterhead.  Specimens marked (net) do not receive any discount regardless of the quantity purchased.

Why should I get on your mailing list?

People on my mailing list get an email anytime there are new specimens added to this site, usually about once a week.  Occasionally there will be special offers for only those people on my mailing list.  Sometimes I will put new specimens on a private page just for those folks on the mailing list.  Occasional articles are also sent out to those on the list.  It doesn't cost anything and there are occasional benefits.  Your email address will never be sold, shared, traded, etc... To get on my mailing list, click here.

Do you sell minerals in wholesale lots?

Yes.  You must have a tax number or resale license for the state you reside in.  Discounts are based on full flats and are generally 30-40% of my normal retail prices.  If multiple flats are purchased, discounts of 50-60% may be negotiated.

I see several pieces I am interested in but can't decide on which one, can you help me make a decision?

Yes, I am glad to offer my opinion.  Since I collected most of the pieces on this site, I am familiar with all aspects of a particular specimen.  I know how a given specimen compares to others from the locality.  I have all the specimens on this site here in my office.  They are quickly available for me to examine and to answer your questions.

Do you have other pieces from the same locality or is this all there is?

Generally there are other pieces available from any given locality.  If there is a locality that your interested in, let me know and I will be happy to put a selection of pieces on a private page for you.

Can I come to your store and pickup my order?

Yes but special conditions apply.  While I do not have a retail store, you are welcome to come to either my home or the warehouse and pickup your order.  You are also welcome to browse through other available items, view my personal collection, or just talk rocks.

I am looking for a certain mineral, can you help me find one?

Yes, fell free to send me your want lists.  I deal with hundreds of other dealers all the time.  I am always happy to either obtain a specimen for you, or to refer you to the dealer who has one.

I saw another dealer with the same material, how come their price was so much higher?

This is a difficult question, there is no general answer.  Some dealers put high prices on everything so that they can give everybody a discount.  In other instances, some dealers only cater to the "elite" and put "elite" prices on their minerals.  A $50.00 rock with a $10000.00 price is still only a $50.00 rock.  Often I am the person who collected the material and I can offer mine direct pricing, even when other dealers buy from me, it is not uncommon for them to triple my prices.

One recent example, a dealer in Texas had a piece of my Pack Rat mine barite listed on his site for $350.00.  When it didn't sell in a short period of time, he moved it to his auction site where it did sell, for $157.00, my original price was $45.00.

Do you send substitutes?

Never!  Minerals are unique, no two are alike.  I may have other specimens from the same locality available, but I will never send one as a substitute.  You may request to view other specimens from any given locality.

Do you enhance or "photoshop" your pictures?

No, with the exception of resizing files and cropping images.  I never colorize, enhance or otherwise alter pictures.  In recent years, it has become very common for other dealers to enhance specimens by inserting fictitious digital backgrounds.  Some dealers disclose this and are true artists, however many do not.  Many dealers are known to alter the colors in their pictures, some are even known to digitally remove flaws and present a false image of the specimen.  In my opinion, this is fraud.

Do you send ship internationally?

Yes, more than 1/3 of my internet sales are shipped overseas.

Do you take minerals on consignment?

Yes, depending on the type of material.  My fees are very fair and range from 15% to 50%.  Look for lower fees for pieces sold on the internet.  Higher fees will be charged for material that I take to shows, mainly because I have to cover costs associated with doing shows (show fees, show space, fuel, promoter fees, etc...).
